I've always seen Petunia's treatment of Harry as a result of
jealousy. It seems like she could no longer take things out on
Lily, so she redirected them into him. I have to wonder though, why
are we just finding out about the connection between Snape and
Lily? A relationship like that seems like it should have been
mentioned in earlier books.
