Interesting choices. I don't think either of those is necessary to the
plot. She may not even be aware of the "missing 24 hours", being as bad
at math as she's said she is. And, as for Snape's motivations - while
I'm sure everyone here (at least, those who haven't already made up
their minds) would like to know, there's no reason to think she won't
just leave it ambiguous for another book.
