I've been thinking about this for a while.  The only conclusion that 
seems to work for me (it may not work for you) is that Montague began 
Apparating while he was at the Borgin and Burkes end of the cabinets, 
but was whisked back to Hogwarts during the attempt, and ended up in 
the toilet.

By the way, does that mean that Montague ended up in the commode?  Or 
in the lavatory?
