Wow!  Got some of you guys thinking...Good.

The reason that I said that the horcrux was leaked is because of Dobby.
I don't have the COS in front of me right now, but in the bedroom scene
at the Dursley's, Dobby warns Harry about terrible magic and dark
threats on Harry's life.  Of course, we could assume he was talking
about the basilisk, but he also was in the Malfoy's house, the same
place the horcrux surfaced.  Dobby could be talking about that because
he mentioned about dark magic THAT DUMBLEDORE MIGHT NOT KNOW ABOUT!!!
And we found out in book six that Dumbledore didn't know everything
about the horcruxes because he needed Slughorn's untampered with
memory.  If Dobby could leak this info to Harry, the info could be
leaked into the general wizard public or picked up metaphysically.

Ps. by the way the DE's know about the horcruxes.  Voldy says this in
his return speech in the GofF.  When he says about they, meaning the
DEs, ,know of the extreme measures  that he took to become immortal.
I would assume the Malfoy's, being DEs, would know about the
horcruxes.  Granted, probably not where all of them are located, but
maybe some of them like the diary.k
