The way I read Goddlefrood's post, if Lupin's outing had not caused his 
ouster, something else would have arisen that would have done so 
instead. Perhaps Lupin would have been run over a car, or struck by 
lightning, or Kissed by a passing Dementor. I believe he is proposing 
that, in order to avoid the curse taking matters into its own hands in 
ways that would be regrettable, the plan was from the start for the 
secret to be exposed before the end of the year.
