Well, it IS in keeping with psychopathy. And Morty DID learn how to fly without self-transmutation or a broom, he figured out the "make a new body" spell, he figured out the Chamber of Secrets, he talked RC, Jr. into giving him the location of the tiara, just to name a few notable accomplishments. Actually, for a psychopath, Morty was incredibly good at keeping on track.
