Yes, I think that's what I'm saying is wrong with the logic. Also 
perhaps what I'm actually and truly saying is that JKR had her notes 
laid out and instead of taking the time to revisit her previous 
publishings, she went ahead and wrote this chapter (small, very 
small, almost miniscule details, but none-the-less a detail which 
caused me to stop reading the book and revist the previous one)

OK, I was seriously wondering about this.  I've read enough fantasy 
novels to know this, but I never saw how Harry would.  Now that 
you've provided a particular instance, I most likely just filed this 
as previously acclimated information, and I never made note of it.  
I think because you've been able to point out that JKR has done 
this, it shouldn't be considered a mistake.
