It was a cauldron. But I agree with you - it would have been
interesting
to see Snape teaching the class about Felix Felicis. The one thing
that bothers me about the explanation that Snape started the Felix
Felicis brewing is that this is completely unlike him. I can't imagine
him brewing the very difficult potion himself to give the students a
look
at what it was supposed to be like when it was finished. It was his
normal way to just let them have at it and then put them down for not
being able to do it right. It was the same with the way he "taught"
Harry occlumens. He didn't tell him specifically how to do it, he just
said to try to do it any way he thought it might work.
And, I can't imagine Snape teaching the first class anywhere near
the same way Slughorn taught it - with 4 potions already brewed
for them to try to recognize.
And, yet, it seems to be the only logical explanation so far. It just
seems out of character for Snape.
