Aside from his being an exceptionally gifted Potions maker and
slughorn's timely resignations, do you mean?

Carol, realizing that Snape applied for the DADA position, not
Potions, but seeing no reason *not* to hire him given his abilities
and his proven loyalty and courage as a spy against LV
