We need to see that Harry is a mediocre kid--who can't seem to
get even one of the letters

Lynda:
Never, in any of my readings of the books or viewings of the movies have i
ever seen Harry as just a mediocre kid. The entire point of the story is
that Harry is NOT average. He is, however a kid who has been beaten down by
the circumstances in which he lives at the beginning of the story--a family
that does not care for him as they should, which carries over to school and
social settings. If I was reading about a mediocre kid--well, I wouldn't
read that story, or recommend it to friends and family. Don't see why anyone
would. Too many books, too little time for mediocrity.
