Was deceitful? Totally - he concealed that they are animagi. Intended 
for Snape to put himself in dangerous situation - **absolutely**, 
whether he wanted to play a joke on Snape and wanted to scare him, 
which is what I believe, or even if he in his mind wanted Snape dead, 
which is what I do not believe.

But **contributed

with this proposition. I can certainly agree that he enabled Snape to 
do what Snape already wanted to do, but nothing more than that.
