I still say (checked it in the Lexicon this time :-)) that Trelawney was hired in the middle of the school year, otherwise she wouldn't have said at the beginning of the 1995 school year that she's been working at Hogwarts for "nearly sixteen years". If she started working at the beginning of the year, she would have said simply "sixteen years". 

The interview must have taken place at the end of 1979 or at the very beginning of 1980, IMO. The Lexicon seems to think it's the beginning of 1980, because DD said at the end of OotP (1996) that it happened sixteen years ago. To reconcile those two statements (Trelawney's and DD's) I would say they met no later than February-March 1996.
