Pippin:
Correct, that is not what I am saying. I am saying that in canon the ability to love is unrelated to the ability to have insight into people's feelings or treat  them with consideration when you'd rather do otherwise. Lupin, for example, shows great insight and consideration towards Neville, and I don't think he's being manipulative, but I don't think that means  Lupin loves Neville more than he loves Tonks or his unborn child.
