JKR here is bringing into play, as just one part of LV's overall
strategy, the tried and true *Nazi principle* (this chapter is just
afloat with them) of using _The Big Lie_ in an effort to demoralize
the enemy. The truth is whatever LV says it is at the moment. No need
to delve further into "why."
