Pippin:
It's the most dangerous and deadly wand in existence. It's the best
wand if you want to frighten people or kill them. Harry wants to save
them. Which wand do you think is going to be best for that, the wand
that chose Harry for what he was, or the Wand of Destiny that had no
choice? I think in Harry's mind, the Elder Wand belongs with
Dumbledore, who won it and tamed it, not with Harry Potter who only
achieved it by accident.

I take your point about Harry's duties, but I assume he would follow
the advice he gave to young Albus, and not engage in any duels until
he knows how. There will be several years of training (plus remedial
potions and whatever else he needs to bring his skills up to NEWT
level) before it's his duty to fight as an auror. And aurors don't
fight alone, anyway.

If Harry will once again have to rely on others to protect him, at
least he will know that he's earned it.

jkoney65:
DD managed to use it for 50 years without any problems and he was
known for doing some powerful magic.

Pippin:
Dumbledore used the wand for 50 years and never found in it the power
to make others see the truth. The wizarding world does not need to
perpetuate its fantasy of benign and powerful wizards holding their
wands aloft and showering magical benefits on lesser beings.

I don't think Harry was thinking about keeping the wand safe from
thieves when he planned to put it in the tomb. The Secret Keeper spell
can take care of that. I think he meant to protect it from the
terrible good intentions of three young wizards who might think that
at the ripe old age of eighteen, they know enough about the world to
fix what's wrong with it.

Dumbledore had a wand that could do more terrible curses than
Voldemort ever performed, but we don't hear that he ever used so much
as an Unforgivable. Harry had Draco's wand for a few months, and
wasn't able to restrain himself from doing a Crucio. A crucio
performed with the Elder Wand...well, that's not a pleasant thought.

No object can be made completely theft-proof. But it can be made
unprofitable to steal. It's possible that a dark wizard may arise who
is powerful enough to bring down the Ministry, call Harry out, defeat
him, invade Hogwarts and seize the wand. But...he wouldn't need it.
He'd have already won.

Pippin
