If somebody defeated Harry he would become the new Master of the Elder
Wand, after that I don't it would be difficult for wand and master to
find each other, the wand would probably decide it would rather be at
it's master's side, and if not a simple "Accio Wand" would probably do it
It's interesting that from book 1 JKR kept emphasizing over and over
that the wand chooses the wizard, I didn't understand why she kept
saying that until I read book 7. From book 1 she knew that would be
a major plot point in book 7!

I think the more powerful the wand the harder it would be to destroy,
besides I think destroying such a magnificent object would be a
crime of the first magnitude, sort of like burning books.
So if you can't hide it and can't destroy it and you want to keep that
very powerful wand out of the wrong hands you'd better not be
defeated in battle, and the best way to ensure that is to make sure
the most powerful wand in the world is near your hand at all times.
Dumbledore was Master of the wand for about half a century and he
did a lot of good with it in that time. Dumbledore says Harry is
a better man that he as and can better be trusted with power,
so I think Harry could do at least as much good in the next
50 years. And it would certainly make a better story.
