I agree with you, Draco is no hero :-). He is just someone who wants
no part in what is happening, but he wants to survive even more. He
can pretend *not* to recognize Harry, who is practically
unrecognizable, but he can't do the same for Ron and Hermione, who are
not disfigured and who are already recognized by his parents anyway.
He is not enthusiastic or gloating about the capture, like Lucius, but
there is nothing he can do about it without risking his life.
Of course, I would like for Draco to help the captives escape, or
something of the kind, but then he wouldn't be Draco, would it :-)? If
he did something like that, LV would find out (don't forget that he is
a mind-reader), and then Draco himself would be tortured and killed
instead of the Trio. If he did it and ran away with them, then his
parents would be tortured and killed instead of him. Not much of a
choice, IMO.
Besides, I never said that Draco covered himself in glory (heroism is
not in his nature), I just said that from what I see in Malfoy Manor,
he didn't want Harry to be captured, so there was no reason for him to
try and capture Harry in RoR. I was trying to prove that it wasn't
his idea, but Crabbe's, that's all.
One more thing: you say that Draco didn't recognize Harry, but I don't
really believe it. Harry may have been unrecognizable, but one look at
Ron and Hermione would be enough for Draco to know who this
unrecognizable boy was. So he knew from the very beginning that it was
Harry, but didn't want to identify him.
Unlike Geoff :-), I always hated Draco. OK, maybe "hate" is too strong
a word - "strong dislike" would be more suitable :-). However, HBP
ending changed my attitude a little bit, and Malfoy Manor changed it a
little bit more :-). I will never like Draco, but at least now I can
call him "Draco" - my dislike for him used to be so strong, that I
couldn't bring myself to call him by his name and could only say
"Malfoy" :-).
