I'm not 100% sure :-). DD didn't help her to get to 12 GP after Arthur
was injured, she took the Knight Bus to get there. However, as you
yourself suggest, Hermione could have been at DD's office on this
occasion.

happened first thing this morning ...". I believe he called her to his
office to tell her, how else could he do it? Hermione is very
attentive to detail, once would be enough for her to remember where
everything in his office was. What do you think? Is it plausible
enough for you :-)?

Carol responds:

It's also possible that the Prefects were summoned there on occasion.
In OoP, one of the Reavenclaw boys (Terry Boot?) mentions being there
and seeing the Sword of Gryffindor, which someone (DD?) told him Harry
had used to kill the Basilisk in their second year. (Sorry I don't
have time to look it up, but it was in the chapter about the initial
meeting of the as-yet-unnamed D.A. in the Hog's Head.

As for the portrait of Phineas Nigellus, Hermione would know from
"Hogwarts: A History" that he had been a headmaster and that all the
former headmasters' portraits hung in Dumbledore's office.

Carol, now wondering whether those portraits included the four
Founders and, if so, whether Rowena Ravenclaw was wearing her diadem
(which should have simplified the whole quest for a Ravenclaw Horcrux!)
