I can see that we are in the minority here :-), but I absolutely agree
with Magpie. If JKR wanted to say that Slytherins returned to fight,
she should (and easily could :-)) have done so. In that interview she
mentioned Slytherins returning like something obvious, but it's not
obvious. Readers are not supposed to guess and speculate about
something as important as this, it should be written in plain English.
I'm still convinced that she just doesn't remember what she wrote :-).
