It's quite possible that there was even more time for Hermione to have
a good look at the sword and at the portraits, because obviously DD
used to keep students waiting for him alone in his office sometimes
:-). In CoS McGonagall left Harry there alone to wait for DD, and he
had enough time to look around, to put on the Sorting Hat and to
witness Fawkes catching fire. In OotP Terry Boot said that one of the
portraits in DD's office told him about Harry killing the basilisk,
which means that Terry was also left alone in DD's office. So why not
Hermione :-)?
