Of course the Memories are the reason he wasn't AKed - however you're right in the Voldemort seemed to like Snape. He didn't just kill him, and he tried to spare Lily for him "Stand aside you silly girl
stand aside now."
So, when we see Snape's memories, and he asked Voldemort to spare Lily, he did actually try to do that for him. I do wonder how Snape got this kind of loyalty from Voldemort, considering we know he doesn't care who he kills, nor needs/wants friends.
