:OK, in book three at the end when Harry, Ron and Hermione find out

:Azkaban without a WAND???

Miles:
I think this is "movie contamination". You are right, Wormtail grabs the
wand before he escapes. But it is not said that he uses it for his
transformation:

"Pettigrew had dived for Lupin's dropped wand. Ron, unsteady on his bandaged
leg, fell. There was a bang, a burst of light - and Ron lay motionless on
the ground. Another bang - Crookshanks flew into the air and back to the
earth in a heap.
"Expelliarmus!" Harry yelled, pointing his own wand at Pettigrew; Lupin's
wand flew high into the air and out of sight. "Stay where you are!" Harry
shouted, running forwards.
Too late. Pettigrew had transformed." (PoA, p279 Paperback)

Wormtail did two things with the wand: He stunned Ron to whom he was bound,
and Crookshanks who would have been able to chase him as a rat.
AFTER Harry disarmed him, he transformed and escaped.

In the movie, Pettigrew points the wand to his head to transform, but not in
the book.
