Geoff:
This one completely threw me when I first read POA. My reaction was 
"Why is this guy's family name the name of a a flower?"

It was only when his werewolf background was revealed that I realised 
that JKR wasn't getting his name from "lupin" but from "lupine", meaning 
"wolfish or wolf-like"
