Hmm. I shall have to contact the Lexicon on that one.
At that point in time, all children in the UK went to ***senior*** school at 11
and many stayed only 4-5 years. There was a selection system at 11+ and the
Sixth Form years were solely in grammar schools. Mandatory schooling still
stops at 16 today.
At that time, children began at school when they were 5, which was the norm
until things like reception classes appeared; my granddaughter is just about to
start in one in September at the age of 4.
Transfer to High School/Community College/Secondary School can now be
between 11 and 13 depending on which LEA (Local Education Authority) the
school is in.
