With all due respect Geoff, we are not talking about 'any' school, we are specifically talking about Hogwarts, and we know specifically how Hogwarts works. 

Still, I suspect the actual date of 1926 is a best guess calculated from clues in the books, but we can't be certain unless JKR says it specifically.
