Taya:
I have just had a thought. Snape is a Slytherin... doesn't this mean he 
places a high priority on his own life survival? Surely that would mean that 
he would choose life over death, even if that life was 'given' by James.
I also had the thought that Snape may have been deliberately given a large 
nose... a visual indication of how nosy he can be.
