While I respect your disappointment, I have just two words for a lack of back story and character development in a play. Those words are William Shakespeare. Truth be told, this is why I suspect there are two editions, so the first can be more prose like with development details before the second complete edition of the play. In fact some of the press paints the books in this way. Scripts are strange to read, because it's meant to be performed. But until the play comes over here, we'll have to settle I guess.

No word on audio. Speaking only for myself though I would much prefer an audio production of the play, if not a film of it. Such editions of plays, in audio form I mean, are not uncommon. I have an amazing recording of Sir. Patrick Stewart's stage performance of "A Christmas Carol."
