after all the creature could hibernate for very long spans of time. 
Consider   the basalt as an example.  Also our Nagini could be a 
descendant  of this one as well,  assuming she  is the beast in question, 
not  the Creator or charmer of what becomes Nagini...lots of 
possibilities. Which is what will make guessing such fun.
Have not been in much of a position to discover how Potter traditionalists 
feel about cursed child.
