Hi, late arrival here, and I am flattered by the invite since I definitely don't qualify as *old crowd* -- that is unless you mean my age! I've been busy getting my affairs in order for midnight tonight, but I took a detour on the way.

THE OLD CROWD - INTRO

 ***Name:

Debbie Duncan

 ***Nicknames/IDs:

elfundeb or elfundeb2, my Yahoo ID

 ***Age:
 46, for another 2 weeks

 ***Family:
DH and two children, ages 11 and 9. Both adopted. Husband addicted to fantasy baseball, mom addicted to HP, daughter addicted to The Sims, son addicted to Yugio! and Game Cube. Normal dysfunctional family!
Also, one mom, 77 with good genes but lots of aches and pains, a sister and brother, all stashed in New Jersey.

 ***Home
Old house in Arlington, Virginia, with kitchen renovation imminent.

 ***Birthday, Place of Birth:
July 3, 1956, Teaneck, New Jersey, escaped 18 years later

 ***Education/Job/Role in Life etc:
B.A. in Government, law degree, practicing tax lawyer and Nimbus DADA professor. My role in life is to be a chameleon and to have many roles.

***Other things we might want to know about you:
Do you really *want* to know? INTP, radical Catholic, liberal democrat, opinionated, etc.

 ***First contact with Harry Potter:
Do you mean when I first had physical contact with the books? Or when I read them? I bought these nice children's books for my children, but then found out they had reading disabilities which precluded them from reading them.

But books should never go to waste, and when a deal crashed in July 2001 and I suddenly was home instead of at work at night, I picked one up. And another. And another. Till I read GoF in a single day, largely at poolside, which is why I think I can read OOP properly over the weekend.

***Favourite Potter things (books, characters, ships, fics, objets
 d'Art, general enthusing):

Books: POA, GOF, COS, PS/SS, in that order.

Characters: Lupin, Ron, Snape, Hermione, Percy, Bill.

Ships: My ship is the menage a trois. Kill one of them off (or turn Harry into Frodo Baggins) and I'll happily ship the other two.

 ***Extent of Potter obsession:
Just the books. But I own three complete sets of the first four books, plus four volumes of commentary. I have 5 copies of OOP on order, plus an audiotape. (This is an exaggeration; I ordered 2 copies from the only bookstore in DC that decided *not* to have a midnight party, but I didn't cancel the order just in case my first copy is stolen and the UK copies haven't arrived yet.)

> ***Other interests/activities:
Junior Gymnastics, Babe Ruth baseball, summer swim/dive leagues, Girl Scouts/Cub Scouts, bicycling and playing kickball in the street with the kids. There's a pattern to this . . . .

 ***Current/recent reading:
Peg Kerr's The Wild Swans; just finished LotR reread

 ***Current/recent listening:
Have suddenly gone back to really dated stuff like Neil Young, Led Zeppelin, Joni Mitchell, Joan Baez, etc. Must be senility.

 ***Current/recent viewing:
Desperately worried that the last movie I saw was CoS (which I disliked intensely), but no, I saw TTT. I don't watch television, except for things like the History Channel.

And to answer another question, OOP reading plans:

Pick up at midnight, fall asleep on couch over first chapter, pick up in morning, get pedicure and read, go to pool and read (reveries of first GoF read), go home and finish reading. Keep clipboard and paper at hand to take notes. Read till exhausted or done. Reread until HPFGU reopens.

Debbie
here in the US, 20 1/2 hours and counting
