I think it could be as simple as this:  Tonks is Tigger (acronym obvious).

When happy, confident, high spirited and enthusiastic, Tonks is full of exuberance and bounce,
which brings out clumsy tendencies.

When miserable, and lovelorn, she is lackadaisical, half hearted and consequently calmer.  Losing
her bounce, she loses her clumsiness.

Catherine, taking her mind off more serious matters, by thinking silly things.
