According to the late AD, very often, the things we want most are the 
worst for us. (Can't quote exactly, my books being 8 time zones away.)
I think what Harry and Snape really have to understand is that
despite their embittered history and all the rights and wrongs on
both sides,  Snape is just as much Dumbledore's man as Harry is and 
vice versa.
