Ah, nice to know I'm not alone. My personal Snape is half-vampire,
with both a vampire spirit and a human soul. That way, the human soul
can die and redeem itself, while vampire!Snape lives on, much happier
not having to cope with demands of a dual nature. But I have to admit
there's not much canon for it.
