I swear that normally sane people lose their minds when naming
children! I read something (can't remember what) a while ago by a
woman writing about her name. When she was born, her parents had a
list of names - one of their favourites was "Lee" (or "Lea"). But her
last name was "King" - Leaking, anyone? :) And, if she had been a
boy,
they were going to name her "Mark".
Odd names - they never end. My cousin named her son Sage. I think
it's
a nice name, actually, but most of my relatives were horrified ("It's
a hippie name!"). My mom once taught a girl named Cinnamon (!), and a
Robert Robertson. I know someone whose name is Xena (really), and
have
met a Beeb, and a Peter Petersen.
I both love and hate my (real) name depending on the day, the
weather,
who's saying it, etc. ;) Although, there are too many ways to spell
it
and to mispronounce it.
This reminds me of the Simpsons episode where Homer and Marge are
discussing names for Bart, and the possible bad nicknames associated
with each suggestion (Larry Fairy, Screwy Louie, etc.):
Marge: "How about Bart?"
Homer: "Hmm... Art, Bart, Cart, Dart, Eart... Nope, can't see any
problem with that!"
