Cellphones?

I will probably succumb to the march of progress and get one soon - 
mostly because of work.  But until quite recently I can honestly say 
it just seemed like an unnecessary expense.  I just wasn't needing to 
phone or be phoned when not at home or work.

But then, my parents installed a meter in my head that ticked away 
saying 'phone bill... phone bill... ' so I never got in the habit of 
phoning just to talk - to this day there has to be a *reason*.

But nearly everyone has one here (about 40 million in operation in 
the UK (pop. 56M), I think).
