[HPFGU-OTChatter] Venting...and a Question!

Funny. My ex-boyfriend who is still one of my closest friends today, kind
of like an extra brother ... he is the one who started me reading the books.
He has a friend who is a school librarian, and she had so highly recommended
the books, that he asked me if I'd like to read the first one with him. It
was an audio book. At first, I scoffed. I couldn't believe any adult would
read a book called Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. I'm in my 40's,
and I happen to adore children's literature as much as I do literature for
people who are not kids, but still, the title put me off. I hadn't heard
all the talk about it, because I rarely watch TV or listen to the radio,
being violently opposed to wasting my time watching commercials. Well, I
was the one who got hooked on Harry Potter! By the time the first paragraph
was finished, I was enchanted. At the end of the first chapter I was
totally hooked. I've heard people say the first chapter of the first book
is the worst thing in the whole series, but it is what got me hooked. Each
new scene and revelation delighted me. So, my former boyfriend and I meet
every time a new book is released to read it together. Last time, we did
the whole thing of going to the book store at midnight with another friend
and rushing back to my place to read all weekend long! We're already making
plans for July to meet at his place or mine for the new book. n But I'm
definitely the one who is more hooked, being on email lists, reading fan
fiction.

Here I am, 29 years old, and dealing with another break-up with
someone who seemed so right and yet turned out so wrong.

I should have known it wouldn't work when I found out he had never
read a Harry Potter book. (I did eventually get him to read the
first three, but he wouldn't discuss.) At least I have the upcoming
Half-Blood Prince to look forward to!

Anyway... this brings up a good question... How do your
boyfriends/girlfriends/husbands/wives feel about your Harry Potter
fascination (or obsession)? Do they get into it too?
