Just checked this up - in the UK the theory test is 20.50 and then the
actual practical test is at least 39 (it's more if you want weekends or
evenings or if you're retaking it after being disqualified).

Plus usually you'll be taking it in your instructor's car so that's the cost
of an hour's lesson on top of the fee - when I first tried learning (ten
years ago) that was about 10-11, plus of course there's the cost of lessons
beforehand, at least ten usually, so at least another 100. Good grief! How
does anyone afford it I ask myself. *sigh* Fortunately I was given lessons
as my 17th birthday present and my dad says as far as he's concerned that
means lessons until I pass so he's going to pay again. But wow - I hadn't
realised how much it all cost!

What about in the US, bboy_mn, how does the cost break down there?
