Barb now:

Just thought I would add my 2 knuts...

I was/am terrified of the dentist. Don't know why, I know it's
irrational. So I went about 10 years without going, even though I
knew there was a problem in a tooth. (Smart, huh?) So when I finally
went, I needed a root canal in that tooth. The root canal happened a
couple of days later, and it was virtually painless. A little bit of
pressure, but really, no pain. I made sure the dentist knew I was
terrified, and he was very patient, gentle, and he answered my
questions. I had headphones and listened to the radio (maybe bring
HP on cd?) and kept my eyes closed. It was a lot quicker than I
thought it would be, too.

I was expecting it to be dreadful, which it wasn't. The dentist told
me he usually prescribed 2 pain relievers after a root canal, and I
couldn't have either, because I am breastfeeding-don't want to dope
up the baby! All I was allowed to have was ibuprofin or Tylenol.
Know what? I didn't need any! No pain after the root canal, either.
Hope it goes well for you!
