I am reminded strongly of the Janet Jackson scandal. This is very much
IMHO, but I felt like the breast incident garnered an even larger
amount of ridiculousness (and, of course, a *ton* of wasted money) over
a much smaller offense.
I suppose what it all comes down to is that people love to find things
to be outraged about from time to time, because . . . well, life gets
pretty boring otherwise. Personally, I can't believe anyone in Harry's
position (that is, in the public spotlight) could be so stupid and
arrogant as to wear such a disgusting symbol that has such a personal
and tragic meaning for so many people. However, I do think that the
response against it has been far overblown, mainly for the amusement of
the masses.
*thinks* Actually, I'll probably be eaten alive for saying this, but
part of me is sort of . . . heartened by the fact that the outcry
against it *was* so over-the-top. If the blind throng of society can
get as worked up over a symbol of anti-Semitism as they can over a
threat to their precious "family-values", perhaps there is hope for
this world yet. ^_~ Just kidding. Sort of.
Laura (who thinks she will not make it through this winter. Brrr.)
P.S. Facebook is sweeping my campus like . . . well, like the Stalking
Made Easy tool that it is. *is afraid*
P.P.S. On the other hand: Weee! Stalking! ^_^
