"it's collectors who are ridiculous, not that dad."

A friend of mine showed me an lengthy article from "Book Collector"
magazine about the Harry Potter books. It included most of the familiar
biographical notes on JK Rowling, but also information on how much the
different editions/variations of the books (UK versions) are worth.

A mint condition, first-run, first edition of Philosopher's Stone will
fetch as much as GB'11,500 (that's about US$17,500), mainly because
they only printed 500 copies of it! That's obviously the Holy Grail for
book collectors.

I can't imagine how much signed copies would fetch, but a few pennies,
no doubt. I guess that's partly why Waterstone's bookshop in Piccadilly
is only allowing people 'under 17' to queue for a signature. Their logic
must be that any adults standing in line would have to be book dealers,
out to make a fast buck.

But, we know different, eh?

Neil
