That brings up an interesting point. My wife and I were discussing this
post today (as we were checking out which of the local bookstores had
the coolest midnight party planned). She pointed out too that Buckbeak
never died at all. But then we started trying to think of ANYONE--human or
animal--who has died in the saga. Apart from some muggles killed by Peter
(an act blamed on Sirius), have there been any deaths at all? The only
ones I can think of are the ghosts, and that includes Myrtle, the only
one killed the last time the Chamber was opened. The people petrified in
CoS all managed to avoid actual death, and sometimes in, let's face it,
HIGHLY contrived ways. Of course, we are meant to believe that Harry's
parents are dead, but even that seems to be open to question in this
magical world. Why does he hear their voices? Are they trapped somewhere,
waiting to be released, something like the way Voldemort was "trapped"
in Quirrel in book 1?
Endlessly wondering
