well, I was in Vienna and wandered into an English-language bookshop. I
picked up PS, skimmed it, bought it, and then the very next day I was
back again for book 2...

so I realised it at once. But I never dreamed it would force me to
start writing fan fiction-- I just couldn't seem to let go of the
story. The fascination for me is in the vivid characterisations, and
the complicated relationships between the characters as well as the
beautifully real-seeming wizarding world.

Jane Austen is the only other writer I can imagine doing fan fiction for,
and one of very few authors that I've re-read more times than JKR. I
think a twin Harry Potter/Jane Austen obsession isn't as unusual as you'd
expect, I know other fanfiction writers who have it. Anyone else here?

And I'm female, a writer and a wizard ;-), so I fit your generalisation
fairly well!
