be another reason why Voldemort couldn't seriously
injure him when he was
with his parents, quite apart from Lily's sacrifice.
Don't know about anyone else, but I was strongly reminded
of the Deeper Magic from before the Dawn of Time, which
saves Aslan in The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe -
I was also thinking of this regarding Lily's sacrifice.
In both books innocent parties willingly sacrifice
their lives to save another, although in Aslan's
case the magic works because he was sacrificed

JKR has stated that the the Narnia chronicles were an influence
on her, so it's not surprising that there is a parallel.
There seems to be a ton of magic, and magical spells. We know very
little about how house elf magic works, or goblin magic, or giant
magic! So, it's very plausible that there is magic that Voldemort
overlooked or has forgotten.
It definitely states that Harry is safe with the Dursleys (which DOES
provide SOME reason that Professor Dumbledore left him there!)
Re: blood magic. The letting of blood always releases power. The
intention in letting it has profound implications on what happens to
the power that is released. Voldemort forcibly taking blood from
Harry and coercing it from Peter Pettigrew -- that spell is just not
going to be as efficacious as Lily protecting her son.
