It's an insipid and sexist nursery rime here in the States. It's
sexist because it assumes farmers are all men.
1) It is true that the relationships that begin as adolescent
bickerings sometimes end up as relationships where people fight
bitterly with each other. This is NOT, however, an argument against
there being an incipient relationship. Hermione and Ron seem much more
invested in each other than Hermione and Harry are --- Harry kind of
checks out of some of their arguments.
2) So, we agree that Ron is infatuated with Hermione.
3) There is no evidence that Harry is infatuated with Hermione. None.
4) I suggest that people do NOT become "oddly formal" with each other
and that that (of all the lines) indicates that Hermione and Ron will
end up dating/having a relationship.
I wonder if people who insist that Hermione do not like Ron -- don't
like Ron themselves? I like Ron quite a bit, and I think he is quite
equal to Hermione and that he will not be intimidated by her being
prefect and/or Head Girl. Who knows? He may intellectually blossom
and become Head Boy. He certainly has the ability, just not the
desire.
I maintain that he will become the strategist in the war against
Voldemort and will find a place in the world different from all his
brothers but quite outstanding.
