I've visited the site you mentioned
(http://www.i2k.com/~svderark/lexicon/number_twelve.html). Though the
list of the significance of the number twelve is extensive, there are
some that are repeated (i.e. the fact that twelve years have passed
since Voldemort's defeat...though that, come to think of it, might be
important in some way ;]).

Personally, I feel that JK Rowling only used her "twelve"'s
and "dozen"'s because they seem like large quantities. Like when she
says that someone has garnered "twelve" O.W.Ls, or when someone
falls "twelve" feet.

Naturally, I might just be another Muggle trying to find a reasonable
explanation for my missing keys.

Excerpt from GoF Chapt 14:

(Ron speaking) 'Why don't you get stabbed in the back by someone you
thought was a friend?'

'Yeah...cool...' said Harry, scribbling it down, 'because...Venus is
in the twelfth house.'

About Venus in the twelfth house:

'The twelfth house relates to sorrow, disappointment, loss,
institutions, secret enemies, solitude or confinement, hidden fears
and worry.'

'...Venus in the twelfth indicates those who enjoy being with other
people but may nevertheless be very shy in social environments. Their
shyness may develop into serious lack of confidence, and as a result,
they fall in love with anyone who pays them the slightest attention.
Romantic experiences can trap them in other ways.'

I've got another sane explanation for the above, but I think I've
written enough ;]
