Just a quick note, because as I read this, I wondered if Prof. Binns gets a salary? Can the ghosts that live at Hogwarts leave there to go to Hogsmeade or Diagon Alley to buy things? We know that they can't eat from Almost Headless Nick's birthday party. I don't suppose they would need anything, but they seem to want things still.
You may now carry on with more important things, I'm sure :)

  We know that teachers at Hogwarts are hired, individuals are made 
  gamekeepers, etc., that there is a medical witch and a librarian, and that 
  some retire and some continue to work well past retirement age, indeed for 
  Prof. Binns death did not bring retirement.
