I still fail to see it at all.  When Ron does his infamous "Hermione, 
Neville's right, you *are* a girl" routine, that's just plain rude 
and annoying, and there's no reason to assume that she must feel 
annoyed because of her romantic interest in the guy.

Likewise, the whole Ron/Hermione fight after the Yule ball has been 
misinterpreted by SHIPpers of all stripes, as nearly as I can tell.  
Remember that Ron said to Hermione that she could go with "one of us" 
referring to Harry and himself -- he didn't ask her to go with him to 
the ball.  Also, an interpretation of her actions as feeling slighted 
by not having been asked by Ron himself is only possible if you 
assume a priori that she has such feelings -- it certainly isn't 
proof of such.  Ron's actions up to that point are extremely rude, 
ridiculous and uncaring of Hermione's own feelings, which is more 
than sufficient cause to explain her anger at the time.
