I wasn't around for these conversations in the past, but I believe the questions have come up in reference to why Ron Weasley has to put up with the shabbiness of his hand-me-downs. It would seem that wizards just Don't Use Magic That Way, for some unfathomable reason.
But, that said, I really enjoy the idea that Lupin had an inspirational family member.
