Of course, it could be Ollivander's unconfirmed theory (sort of a
religious belief. Ollivander IS a bit odd). Wands DO get old and have
to be changed from time to time, anyway, so it's not af it's a "for the
rest of your life" choice, even if wands select their owners.

If someone lends you his car, telling you he's not going to need it
more, you would nonetheless give it back, would you? Posibly Hagrid
understood that Sirius wouldn't be needing it for some time, and,
anyway, they were both more than a bit shocked then.

I actually like this theory so much, I'm going to start to defend it
myself. Very well done. In my school, that was the exact situation:
there was an A clas and a B class, and I didn't even know the names of
the people of the other class (some of them, I wouldn't recognize in
the playground as of my year).
