My question is-- was Voldemort really in the Chamber of Secrets with
Harry? I thought Tom Riddle was a memory of V, a copy of himself
from a particular period of time, preserved in the diary. It was
Ginny who updated Tom on events since he'd left Hogwarts, including
his downfall.
So, Voldemort doesn't actually know about what happened that year,
unless Lucius Malfoy has told him. Again, assuming it makes any
difference whether V knows or not.
