I have a feeling you may be right that McGonagall may not be asked to
be on the front lines in the ensuing battle with Voldemort. I say
this based on the fact that Dumbledore didn't allow her to know
Sirius was an animagus and her failure to prevent Crouch Jr. from
losing his soul. I suppose when Dumbledore loses the headmaster
position at Hogwarts (which will be OoP page 732), McGonagall (and
Snape) will keep an eye on the trio while Dumbledore, Mundungus,
Figg, Sirius and Lupin work against Voldemort from the outside.
As I count myself among those who would like to see women play a
greater role in future books, I hope McGonagall is given *a lot* more
to do than that.

So many good candidates for a name! I move that we re-locate the
headquarters of the Reverse Memory Charm group from my cubicle to the
corner booth in the little Chinese food restaurant down the street
with greasy carpet but excellent soup. The four members will debate
and then vote on a name, feeling haughty and superior because we may
have more members than D.E.P.R.E.C.I.A.T.I.O.N.

Now, to inject some canon into this post, Neville's story doesn't end
with the explanation of why his memory is poor. Whether it is some
memory charm or something else, JKR still has to develop it in future
books. Many of us seem to think that Neville has a lot of talent and
power that is currently being repressed. What device could JKR
possibly use to bring forth this talent and power? IIRC, the only
way to break through a memory charm is with torture.

Also, what is the canon evidence that memory charms damage the
memory? The muggle Roberts family is given a host of memory charms.
Do they all have impaired memories now? Can one of the L.O.O.N.s set
me straight on the difference between the Roberts family memory
charm, Lockhart's memory charm, and Bertha Jorkins memory charm?

Cindy (appreciating the dazzling glint in Tabouli's eye, but bitterly
disappointed that Tabouli has not declared her allegiance to the
Reverse Memory Charm group)
